Cool Dan, so that's what they're called in English!! Had to look it up to see a pic, glad they're open for you also. We have them but call them Collared Dove (Turkentauben). I'm not so sure they're 1/3 larger than a Mourning Dove, but maybe you's are feeding them steroids!! Over here they're about the same size as a Mourning. Anyway, have fun hunting them, they're pretty swift flyers, Waidmannsheil, Dom.
Since one of the classes I teach in the Hunting Course over here here's a little info on them: II. COLLARED TURTLE DOVE / TURKENTAUBE -- ORIGINALLY FROM INDIA, THE gKLEINE TAUBEh WAS FIRST SEEN IN BAVARIA IN 1947 AND HAS SINCE SPREAD ALL ACROSS GERMANY. THE TURKENTAUBE LIVES MOSTLY IN CITIES AND PARKS, FLYING TO NEARBY FIELDS TO FEED. IT PREFERS TO NEST IN PEAR TREES. -- SMALLER THAN THE RING DOVE, ABOUT HALF THE SIZE. -- OVERALL ASH-BROWNISH GRAY. -- HAS A PROMINENT BLACK BAND ACROSS THE BACK OF THE NECK BANDED WITH WHITE. -- HAS A WHITE BAND ACROSS THE END OF THE UNDERSIDE OF ITS TAIL. ![]() |
