I practice some criminal law, but I don't represent anybody charged with murder and never will. Trust me, there are a lot of reasons to allow attorneys to carry. About 7 years ago, when I was working for a firm and doing surety law (i.e., performance and payment bonds for construction projects), one of the construction companies defaulted on a bunch of their bonds, and the surety company requires the owners of the construction company to sign personally before they issue the bonds. Imagine how happy the construction company owner was when we were trying to take his house from him and force him into bankruptcy. Funny thing is that the partners had me dealing with this guy, who was about twice my weight and a good deal taller than me, while both of the partners on this case were both bigger than me (i.e., one was 6' 4" and the other 6').
