Don,

You came to the right place with your questions. It sounds like you have a Model 38 Carbine, or clone, and that is a nice sporter "as is."

I suggest you shoot it with several types of ammo to see how it prints groups down range BEFORE you get the composite replacement stock and scope mounts. A scope is an expensive problem for the Mosin and the safety is crude at best.

You have a handy arm "as is" and hopefully an accurate one. It really cannot be "sporterized" much more without big money that will not be returned if you try to sell it in the future.
