I'm old enough to remember when standard caliburs would kill an elk. Now they have become immune to a 30-06 and can only be killed with a Magnum.

I remember Jack, and Elmer and a lot others that sadly are no longer with us. However, there are a few good ones still writing including our own Rocky, and frankly John Barsness ain't too shabby either, although he doesn't come to this site.
IIRC, Jack took his first moose with a .270 using a hot loaded 130 gr. Nosler partition. Not what I would have picked but it worked for him. As I recall, he was hunting something else ((deer?) when he jumped the moose and shot it. He even opines IIRC, that he would have preferred something bigger but the
.270 was what was in his hands at the time.
