Hey fabsroman sorry to hear about the Lyme disease. I found other info regarding the possible link between the reduction of Lyme disease and deer populations. Though I haven't researched it further it would seem to make sense.

http://www.deeralliance.com/index.ph...&articleID=144

The following link reflects how Illinois is using the car/deer info to adjust herd size.

http://www.thetelegraph.com/articles...dents-car.html

I think that such info could be part of the tool box, but wonder how similar information could be used to justify some other influence on other aspects of what I call "Traditional Sports" i.e. Hunting and Fishing. The seat belt laws came about because insurance co's showed that usage resulted in less deaths... just food for thought.

The following links justify my comments about statefarm insurance.

http://www.statefarm.com/_pdf/deer_chart_2009.pdf
http://www.statefarm.com/_pdf/collis...elihood_09.pdf
http://www.dot.wisconsin.gov/safety/.../deerfacts.pdf

One thing I'm noting from some of my reading is the committee concept. With a bunch of information gathered a committee makes a CENSUS about what should be done. Is that anyway to manage any natural resource?

I'm thinking if Hunters were more verbal ABOUT HELPING to control deer populations, the DNR would listen. Hopefully by making it less restrictive ($) and more rewarding ($).

Side Note: Sundays Parade Insert (Oct. 18, 2009) had an article about how states are trying to collect sales tax on Internet sales. Said that $20 billion is lost to states each year . . . only makes me wonder what citizens really think about taxes.

Just rambling...

God created we manage!

Thanks for the well wishes. I'm actually starting to feel better, but I have been on antibiotics for 20 days now.

My mother was talking to me on Sunday about the sales tax issue. She must have read it in Parade also. No problem here in Maryland since the raised the state sales tax from 5% to 6%. They should be making up the difference with that extra 1% to account for the money lost on internet sales. I can tell you one thing that will really be hurt by sales tax on internet sales, and that is ebay. All the small time sellers will have one heck of a headache trying to figure out all that paperwork, unless ebay figures out a way for them to do it electronically within the sale. I might have to read that article to see exactly what it says.

See Fabs

When it comes to regulations it really IS all about the money and control. The states have been trying this for years. When you stop to consider how much tax you pay every year it would be amazing. Like 50 cents a gallon or more just on gas. BTW in Wyoming..when you come into the state if you bought something out of state you are supposed to stop and pay Wy sales tax on the items.. Many here shop in Montana which has no sales tax. You do know how many stop and pay tax on Montana items don't you??

Skeet,

You do know that in Maryland you are supposed to download a form and pay the Sales & Use Tax on an item that you purchase over the internet or out of state. If the item is purchased out of state, Maryland charges a Use Tax on it when you enter the state kind of like they do in Wyoming. Ever wonder what that Use Tax in Sales & Use Tax was? Now you know. Guess how many people complete that form and send in the money.

Now, there has to be some taxation. Roads, schools, police departments, fire departments, and the Court system cannot fund themselves. Well, maybe the police department and Court system can. Anyway, I'm sure you get my point. With that said, I will agree with you in that taxes are just way out of control with almost no accountability for where the money goes. With government being so big, it is hard to track what the heck is going on.

Gosh and golly Fabs. This is the main point I have been trying to make with you..Of course we need some regulation..but when the government gets too big and too wrapped up in itself with no common sense regulations and spending and taxes..it may just be time to make some real changes back to the original framers intents.

Idiot Number Eight of 2008

I live in a semi-rural area. ( Weyauwega , Wisconsin ) We recently had a
new neighbor call the local township administr ative office to request
the removal of the Deer Crossing sign on our road.

The reason: 'Too many deer are being hit by cars out here, and I don't
think this is a good place for them to be crossing anymore.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
STAY ALERT!
They walk among us...they REPRODUCE...and they VOTE!!!
I live in W.Pa and not wisconsin but found this funny...Fabs, seems with that many deer in your area, lyme could be a problem and the numbers of deer taken don't seem to be hurting the herd..however here in Pa, they wanted to help with deer/auto and had increased the number of doe tags so that in some areas like Allegheny Co. The tag limits are endless..Some say they just want money some say deer/auto is a problem but what happened is they don't do anything about access to the deer in overpopulated areas.(hunters cleaned deer out of areas they had access to)...just the other day my daughter and I spent the whole day hunting Allegh Co gamelands and seen not one deer...but like told by the PGW watch the peoples yards on way out..yep..there stood numerous deer munching right under posted signs...well safety zone area anyhow..but you now can spend days and numerous hours in the woods and not as much as see a tail...When they wanted to reduce the herd, they did..and as I say it wasn't the PGC that thinned them out ..it was the hunters themselves and as stated in above posts, what to do with all the meat..We live on 3 Pa. deer a year and that is all we take.I think the size of deer here in Pa as opposed to say Maryland is about 2x...Some don't even eat them but still take 5 or 6 a year and give to share the harvest..My local butcher said his numbers of processed deer have dropped 1/2 over the past few years..Also info from a professional coyote hunter said tests have shown the 3 or every 4 new born deer are taken by yotes and the yotes have gone crazy here..just got a 70lb that x my yard at 5pm every day..following the turkey trail...what ever they (gov) messes with will change something else..don't let them introduce yotes to your area or let the insurance co get involved ..buy as many tags as hunters as it seems you already do in your overpopulated areas and try to do it yourself as hunters or you will end up like lots of us in Pa ....hunt hard, see nothing, freezor still empty...what to do with all that meat?...Try making other special items from it such as kielbalsa, brauts, breakfast sausages..jerkey..etc etc..Nobody lives on just steaks and burgers...and that I think is why so much is wasted as last years freezor is cleaned out for the new meat...We also had a farmer here that was scared S...less to even plow his fields..wanted deer removed but his 'hunting' neighbors didn't want them shot off.(land posted for miles around this farm)...I had posted in other areas of HC about this..because for some reason, one day a 'hunter' shot out the farmers car window...so he closed the farm..we that use to hunt there know it was the man that would confront us every time we were in that area..said he will stop us from hunting this mans farm one way or another..I sure hate having to buy ground meat from Walmart/sams that might have 500 different cows mixed in the same burger..
