8 tracks no matter how you take care of them eventually go bad. Records with some TLC can last a LONG LONG time.

I have both, my players have long since died.

I tried to get a new stylus or cartridge for my Dual turntable the other day, that was pretty funny, in the wrong way. It has developed a hum in it and is still in great shape, with adjustable speed knobs, etc. But if I can not get the hum gone, it is of little use. I have grand kids that do not even know what a record is.
