My 2 cents would opt for a AK variant. There are a reported 50 million out there. They will shoot anything run down thru them. They can be cleaned with a shoelace. Work always. Ammo is pretty much #2 behind the 223. Just my 2 pennies.

All interesting points

Military surplus arms would be ideal and are tough as nails. I know a fellow that has several .30-06 surplus bolt action rifles and buys factory ammo every month for his stash. He does not reload and wants to be prepared. All the best...
