jon,
I have several M24 Savage O/U arms; one is .222 over 20 gauge and another .22 Magnum over 20 gauge. The .22 Mag over 20 gauge says on the barrel, " DO NOT FIRE SHOTGUN BARREL WITH SCOPE ATTACHED." I have a scope on the .222 and fire it with the .222 barrel and 20 gauge routinely with no problems. If you have any questions about scopes, etc., why not contact Savage? Adam

My model 24 is one of the newer ones with the integral mount base. I used Weaver mounts & their see-thru rings on mine with a 4x scope. I've never had any problems with mine either wacking me in the forehead or loosening of the scope and/or mounts when shooting the shotgun barrel. My scope is mounted with the adjustment turrets between the front and rear rings. My son's M 24 is one of the older ones with just the usual .22 3/8" dovetail. We mounted a 4x scope on his using just Weaver .22-type see-thru rings and snugged them down tight. We've not had any problems with his either when shooting the shotgun barrel, at least on an occasional basis.

I am just worried at the ring placement, with one being next to the turret, almost touching, could it not cause damage?
I have had cheaper scopes hold up, but was not worried if they broke or not, but this is a VX-II, and I do worry.

I've got several rifles where I've had to mount scopes so that the turrets were right up against the rear scope rings and I've never had any problems. I use primarily Weaver rings - usually the quad locks - and I don't believe you could unintentionally tighten them enough to collapse or otherwise damage the scope's tube or adjustments. However, I guess anything is possible.

I wouldn`t worry about a Leo. I have put them through a lot worse than your going to and only ruined 1. I dropped a 16 lb. gun on the bell of the scope.
