I've got several rifles where I've had to mount scopes so that the turrets were right up against the rear scope rings and I've never had any problems. I use primarily Weaver rings - usually the quad locks - and I don't believe you could unintentionally tighten them enough to collapse or otherwise damage the scope's tube or adjustments. However, I guess anything is possible.

I wouldn`t worry about a Leo. I have put them through a lot worse than your going to and only ruined 1. I dropped a 16 lb. gun on the bell of the scope.
