If you ever owned an early TC Contender (silver soldered front sight) you had a black chrome /nickel barrel. That was the finish on the early barrels. The reason TC stopped using it, it was expensive, the re-dos were numerous and it did not wear well, especially at the frame / barrel contact area.

On my competition IPSC handguns I use satin chrome, done by Bob. He has built several of my race guns and does a good job at building and finishing.
