When your HD dies, a mechanical failure, it is very tough because you loose everything unless you have a backup system and can load all of your old programs on a new machine or new HD on the old machine.

I had my HD disintegrate inside (a Cheetah 15K spin job) last year about this time. I got about 80% put back on, but that 20% is tough not to have, I keep needing this or that from the missing.

Best of luck to Adam. Oh, I now have a small portable 120G backup, I just plug in.
