In January 1940, President Roosevelt relocated our Pacific Fleet from San Diego to Pear Harbor. The Japanese protested that fleet relocation in a diplomatic note. On December 7, 1941 we had 105 ships and 485 aircraft parked on the Hawaiian Islands. Only the destroyer Ward was patrolling outside the harbor and did shoot a Jap mini sub. I understand the peacetime mentality and no ship or plane patrols far out to sea. We learned a lot on December 7, 1941 and the brave military folks did their duty as best they could.... Adam
