NEF Handi-Rifle Combo

I am looking at the Dick's flyer and they have a new england firearms single shot rifle in .243 with a simmons 3-9x32 scope for $230. I don't really rifle hunt that much and the deer around here are not too big so a .243 would be enough. I also like the fact that i could use it for varmints and groundhogs too. Has anyone ever had any experience with this rifle? I'm not sure what type of Simmons it is but are they decent scopes? THanx

Nova, I had a New England in 45-70 and loved it. The only reason I don't still have it, is I had a sholder injury and couldnt take the beating. I have used a friends Handy rifle in .22 Hornet and a 30-30, they both shot very good. I was all set to get a .243 or a .223 in the Handy rifle, when a Winchester model 70 in .22-250 came along.
The .243 will take Deer and is also a good varmint caliber. I do not know about the scope. Good luck and have fun.

I have a nef in 223 that I bought as a combo deal from "Dicks Sporting Goods" about a year ago.it came with hammer spur.scope mount base, weaver rings,4-12x40AO simmons scope and a hard case for $260.can't beat it to start out with. Can always upgrade scope later.I use this gun for chucks and am very impressed with it.

I`ve talk to several people that own them and they all loved them. The trigger pull is horrible, but that can be fixed. I also don`t like Tasco scopes, but that can be replaced. I would reather see you buy one without a scope and put on a better scope, but if you can`t find one cheaper without a scope, at least you have some tradeing matteral if the scope fails you. They`re not a custom gun, but they do a great job for the money.
