Thumbs up Big Buck Down video

Well I just finished up editing my PA archery hunt video. I got the whole thing from start to finish except (of course) the kill shot. When I drew my bow I tapped the camera enough to take him out of the picture. You can hear the shot and see him run off on the high resolution video.

Sorry for the low resolution, since it's 3 minutes I dumbed it down and it's about 2.3 MB. The high-res is about 8MB and would kill anyone not on broadband. The video is a bit shaky at times, but you try running a camera and shooting a bow at the same time! Like I said, I've seen bigger, but this is one dandy of a buck for our neck of the woods. I know some states just West of here, he may even be a passer-up, but seeing as how I only had hrs more to hunt in the season, I wasn't letting him go! I still get all jacked up every time I view it. Not my biggest, but he'll do quite nicely.

Very kewl Petey!!

What kind of camera and, even more important, what kind of mount are you using? I would like to be able to do that, but dont know what to use on my camera. Is it one of those clamp mounts? Like jumper cable clamps?

nope! There are several different makes and models of Tree-pods. Mine in particular is a Pine Ridge Pro Bow cam support arm. I like it beacuse it's base is detachable, so you can ratchet it to the tree, then attach the arm, then use the quick release camera base (included) to attach the camera. It's all alluminum with plastic washers, very quiet. It'll run you about $50 roughly.

Now Lone Wolf tree stands makes a "beefier" camera mount that has a base leveler. I haven't run into that problem with mine, since most trees I'm in are vertically level anyhow. That'll run you $100 and in my opinion not worth the money.

The Pro Bow cam will support your larger production 3CCD cameras like the Canon GL-2 and XL-1. The particular camera I used for this hunt was a smaller 1 CCD Sony Mini-dvd camera. The quality isn't as good as the Canon, but I wasn't toting that big ol GL-2 around since I have enough crap to carry!

Attached is an image of the pro bow cam mount to give you a clue. It's a pretty slick setup.

Nice job with the video Petey, thanks for sharing. You did a mighty fine job considering trying to keep focus and angle, and, I'd probably have bumped it too!! You didn't walk that far but sounded winded, 'course, I had the volume pegged out Know it was exciting for you tho, Waidmannsheil, Dom.

The day I don't get excited when I let an arrow fly or pull the trigger will be the day I'm done hunting Like that'll ever happen!

It's nice to share the actual hunt with people. Our gun season starts the 27th, and I have some doe tags left. Those are going to be saved for either the flintlock, handgun, or long range rifle.

Either way I should have more video to come.

Nice shooting Petey. Can't believe you worried about getting it on video instead of concentrating on the deer.....lol...Congrats.
