				scope recommendation

If things go as planned, I'll be picking up a Savage 22-250 soon. I'm looking for scope recommendations (or..what to avoid) for dogs and yotes. I'll be using strictly factory ammo at "normal" varmint yardages. thanks

Hey Fiji, hope it works out for you. What is a normal range for you? We hunt farmland so normal for us goes from "in your face" (shotgun time) on out to several hundred yards. I often carry a shotgun and varmint gun together because of that. If they are going to be close in look at a variable that is on the low end like 2.5x. http://www.bushnell.com/products/sco...e4200/422104M/ http://www.bushnell.com/products/sco...e6500/652164M/ If you'll be shooting distance then you could step up to a 4.5x on the low end. Leupold has some nice VX-3 scopes also.

				Scope for 22-250.

			I hapen to have a couple 22-250s and on one I have a 6.5 x 20..on the other I have a Leupold 4 x 12 AO.. I prefer the 4 x 12.. I also have a 4 x 12 Redfield scope on my 220 Swift...as well as a POS Simmons 4 x 12 on my 22 Hornet. I don't miss because of the scope.

If you want to spend the money a 3 1/2 x 10 VX 111 is as good as you can do. For a little less a 3 x 9 is an excellant choice. My AR wears a 3 x 9 Leupold and is always carried on 3 X. In fact I don`t think I`ve ever killed one with it on anything but 3 X. But I use it for up close and personal and when running them with dogs. It`s good for 275 to 300 yrds. Worry more about the low end of a varaible scope than the top end. The last deer I killed was with a muzzle loader with a 2 1/2 X scope at 289 yrds. lazered. It had been hit or I would not have shot, but I had a pleanty good point of aim for the shot.

have a Leupold VX III on my .280 A-bolt and love it. Its good out to a fair distance as well. I'm a newbie to the varmint hunting so I'm just picking the brains of the "pros" before I invest in glass.

FIJI, Not to screw up anything, but I've got a 4-16 on my .22-250. My brother had a 4-12 on his and replaced it with a 6-18. IF you're shooting groundhogs at the long edge of "normal" I'd suggest something with a little more top end. Not sure what your price range is, but Bushnell has a 6500 series that goes from 2.5-16X... Might be just the ticket. JMHO gd

If your hunting PD`s you really do have much worry about gettint to much power, BUT for hunting coyotes you need a low power bottom end fro those close in running shots. In fact I don`t think I`ve ever shot a coyote with my AR when the scope was set above 3 X.

Fiji, I hit a groundhog at 400yds on Saturday with my 22-250 off a harris bipod. It wears a 6.5-20x Leupold and was set at 20x. I could see the bullet strike. You may have to decide what type of hunting you'll do more of and which scope will best fill that role. Allen

I've had very good luck with the Mueller 4-16 Mil-dot on my .223. A pretty decent scope for the money. Has held well for 5 years so far.

Dont dis me, but I like Tasco. Theyre cheap and good enough for pretty much anything. I've got a 2.5-10X42AO Target and Varmint Series on my .243. Its good and only costs about $100. I can also be had in 3-9X40, 3-12X42AO, 6.5-20X42AO, and 6-24X50AO. Costs up to 150 bucks. Not as good as some but they work. Minihuntur

Looks like a nice set-up! Call him up and see just how desperate he is to sell. LOL! Should be a nice rifle, check on comparable rifles, and work out what you're willing to fork over for it. gd
