Yard Sale ML Stuff.

Today we had the big townwide yard sale beginning at 0800. First off I found a nice possibles bag for 50 cents. Actually, it will go to my son-in-law because he needs a second one. I found the nicest NEW tomahawk for $1.00 and could not peel off the buck fast enough from my money clip.

At home I compared the new 'hawk to my throwing 'hawk. The throwing hawk has an 18-inch handle and 3.5 inch wide bite. The new 'hawk has a 21-inch handle and 5-inch bite. The new 'hawk is more like a battle axe. I fitted the head to the handle, filed on a better cutting edge and then stained and linseed oiled the handles of both 'hawks.

Next week loyal hound, Lori, and I will construct our half-faced camp in the West Woods. We will build it out of natural materials by cutting framing logs with the 'hawks. I will put a tarp overhead for a roof and conceal it by using boughs on top. We will Woods Loaf therein this Summer with a flintlock leaning against an upright post.

Congrats on the finds, as usual.....you must live in a unique neighborhood, Adam; all we find here at my garage sales are baby clothes and kids toys, old text books, and JUNK!
At your half faced camp, have you ever tried building a wigwam in the traditional style (placing saplings in the ground and covering the frame with bark or reed mats)? Something I have always wanted to try, but never had the land to do it.

You have a clue about what our yardsales are mostly like; 90% are baby clothes, toys, and JUNK! My other great find yesterday for 75 Cents was "The Rifle in America" by Philip B. Sharp. The book is NEW in and out and was reprinted by the NRA for its Firearms Classic Library offering of the 1938 Edition.

As for the camp, I have a 10-acre hardwoods tract called the "West Woods." There are a few pine trees, but most are Ash and Maple. A very good Spring is at the North end of the woods and an Anthropologist told me this was a former Indian campsite. Nearby is a Seneca Religious rockpile that Dr. Ann Mabe told me was the northern most site so far in PA that she has discovered. French & Indian War activity occured in this area 1756-1763. I will build some sort of period-correct camp this Summer for me and the dog.

Yeah my big find this week at yard sales was a 1950s aluminum omelt pan for $1. Works great at the camp for biscuts, cornbread, beans, and of course omelts.
