Tell me about your Glock(s).....

I'm looking for something to carry around water, and while looking at the plastic stock on my shotgun, the light bulb went on (it's only a 15 watt

) and thought "What about a Glock?"
My experience with these guns is limited to my friends compact .45 ACP, which I sorta didn't care for, but there is a gun shop near my home that has handgun rentals, so "trying before buying" is definetly an option. Your thoughts? Any truth to the fact that they can't shoot cast bullets? Anything to look out for, like in police trade ins?

Glocks are fine, as I said in the CCW site, I use a nickle plated 1911 in 39 Super. Nothing against Glocks, just that I'm a 1911 man.

I actually have no use for a semiauto without a safety.. I know..I know..it has a safe trigger action..but i also don't have any use for a plastic gun.....not just grocks...heck even a "gag" stainless handgun would be better by far LOL BTW many police depts are turning away from Grocks or so I have read

I have limited Glock experience, and that is why my Personally Owned Weapon (POW) stays in the vault since I retired. In 1989, the agency went from revolvers to Glocks Model 17 or 19, the agent's choice and I picked the 19. We got a letter of authorization and bought our Glocks directly from Glock at government cost. Hence: we carried POWs.

I was the Firearms Coordinator (Instructor) then and shot my M19 a lot. Twice, between 1989 and 1996, my M19 STOPPED cold! I returned the 19 to Smyrna, GA and the 19 was refit. Both times the stoppages occcured on the range, fortunately. The trigger spring broke. After I retired in 1996, the 19 STOPPED, again, on my club range, and was refit. My M19 was Generation 1. When I got it back in 1996, after refit, it had a different (captured) recoil spring and I do not know what, if any, upgrades occured inside my 19.

I believe Three Strikes and a gun is OUT! I went back to my M1911 built from an AMT stainles frame with a blued slide-it has never STOPPED for me and it gets shot almost daily.

I agree with what everyone has told you.
Had a Glock 23 once.
You may want to shoot a Springfield XD-M if one is available.
Their grip angle appears to be almost identical to a 1911 and it has a grip safety which the Glunck does not have.
I've got the older XD-45. 13 +1 in a 45acp is nice.
The recoil pulse is a bit more of a throw than my 1911 govt though.

Had one and got rid of it.

I have an extensive handgun collection and not one is a Glock due to my personal preferences. I like to see the hammer on any handgun I carry or shoot. My favorites are a Model 1911A1 or a Smith Model 19 or Model 29. So it depends what you prefer. I do believe a Glock is a fine handgun for those that are very well trained. There have been a lot of accidental discharges with Glocks and I believe it was due to poor training of the shooters. Take care...

I have read of a lot of accidental discharges...many have been under the stress of the situation. with that trigger and no safety..just a bit of oops..and off she goes. I had one for a short time. Realized the shortcomings for me and disposed of it

My son who is a full time LEO carried a Glock 23 for 19 years. He was issued a new one when the Gen. 3 came out a few years ago, said there was nothing wrong with his initial issue. For me for the most part will stick with the ones I have on the 1911 platform. Do have one exception a Ruger LCP for carry at times.

I'm not a big fan of plastic gun. Yes, I know they are reliable and all of that but I just don't care for them. I like to see the hammer and have a safety in a semi auto. However I like a revolver for carry. If it were me I would look at a stainless revolver like a model 60 in 2 or 3" barrel. Light enough to not bother your and small enough to conceal. JMO. Just for the record the 1911-a1 is the best but its just too big after you put your waders, 3 or 4 layers and all the stuff you take duck hunting.

My preferred carry piece is a Smith & Wesson Model 60 stainless .38 Special with a 2 inch barrel. It carries well and is reliable. I got my girlfriend a Model 36 which is the same revolver in blued configuration. All the best...

Gil..you keep mentioning this gal friend of yours.. Now I've never seen a pic of you..or I didn't look..but how bout one of the gal friend?? LOL Actually..just wanted to say..the 36 is a nice gun..perfect for close quarters for women. My wife also carries one most of the time..She carries more than i do..we live at the end of nowhere so i like she has a gun when she comes home...alone

My wife, 6 ft tall, is a former PI from that lovely little village of Memphis. She carries a Smith Mdl 60 and knows how to use it.

After I built the Glock 19 Gen 4 for the Spl Ops troop, I was so impressed, I sold the 23 Gen 4, I bought, unfired. I kept my Sig P-226 as my only 9mm gun.

I have a 9mm..and ol Smith 639 8 shooter. It is real stainless..and heavy. Not like the 39. so I never carry it..and I think the 9mm is a pretty anemic round..in FMJs. I know they have other good ammo.. but the 45 Wilson with HPs works as well as I think I will ever need..or any of the other 45 autos I have.. They all handle hollowpoints just fine...An Auto Ordnance and a Chas Daly all shoot so well I'm gonna sell most of the others..the Safe Queens

Have 2 prefered and building another. First is a Para Ord PDA in yes 9mm with the proper ammo, 2nd is an old Colt LW Commander in 45 acp again with proper ammo. Picked up NIB Springfield 1911 GI with a 4" barrel. Number of problems for me so rebuilding it. Fired about 30 rounds through it then had to band aid the web of my right hand. My 72 year old eyes can not see GI sights worth a darn, appropiate parts have been ordered.
