The last question is the hardest
The first practical breechloading rifle was the Ferguson invented by a Major (Patrick??) Ferguson who was killed at the Battle of Kings Mountain in Georgia during the Revolutionary war. He was of course British and the rifle was a revolution in itself. The stodgy British military Hierarchy of course disdained a rifle that could be fired every 10 seconds and lost the revolution. The rest I will leave to be answered.
